Colgate-Palmolive is recalling 4.9 million bottles of its Fabuloso Multi-Purpose Cleaner over fears they may contain bacteria that could cause infection.
The cleaning product, used to clean most residential hard surfaces, was sold from December 2022 to January 2023 for $1-$11 at Amazon.com and other online sites. Affected products were also sold at Dollar General, Family Dollar, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Walmart, and other major U.S. retailers nationwide.
The company has urged customers who have bought the product to stop using it and return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

According to recall posted by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, approximately 56,000 bottles of Fabuloso were sold in Canada. During manufacturing, a preservative was not added to the affected products, which led to a risk of bacteria growth.
Colgate-Palmolive has since taken the products off shelves and is urging customers to return them immediately. The recalled products have the potential to contain Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Pseudomonas fluorescens, bacteria found widely in soil and water.
The bacteria – which can be inhaled, or entered through the eyes or a break in the skin – can pose a serious infection risk, especially to those with weakened immune systems, external medical devices, or underlying lung conditions, CPSC and the company said.
People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria, the company said. No injuries have been reported in connection with the recalled products, the CPSC said.
