HCL Technologies CEO C Vijayakumar said the IT services provider plans to keep using a hybrid model that is optimised and tuned in to needs, with nearly 70% of its employees moving into physical workspaces by the end of the current fiscal.

The number of visitors to HCLTech’s offices has been rising slowly but steadily, he said.

It’s worth noting that the IT sector implemented flexible work options before the epidemic hit.

Many tech companies are increasing their efforts to get employees back into the office at least part time, and over the past few months, they have seen employees slowly start to return and the office cubicles begin to get occupied more regularly as life returns to normal.

“Our virtual operating model prioritises hybrid environments and is driven by business requirements. We’ve had some success getting people in the office three days a week “Vijayakumar revealed to PTI.

More than half of our staff is now coming in three times per week, he said, and that figure is rising.

The strategy will be “need-based,” he stressed.

“This decision will likely be made on a case-by-case basis, as several ongoing projects require office attendance at least occasionally. Accordingly, we will adjust to the demand and hopefully reach 70–75% by the end of the year “the man declared.

Everything will be done on a “gradual” timetable that takes into account current conditions.

He explained that this trend was partly due to the fact that “people have relocated to smaller towns, and they’re coming back.”

Vijayakumar said it’s a “mixed bag” as far as whether or not workers are reluctant to give up the extra freedom they were given during the pandemic, and whether or not their employers are having trouble getting them back to the office.

People “are very keen to come back to work in offices,” he said, “and there are also people who don’t want to do it.”

He outlined the many variables at play, including context, taste, and level of ease.

“Not because of a generational divide or anything like that, no. There are probably people from both generations working here. So, I believe it is more defined by their individual circumstance, preference, and level of comfort, “Then he added something.
